The Saturn Lodge is a privately-funded observatory located under the dark skies of the Los Padres National Forest about 75 miles north of Los Angeles. The observatory is used primarily for CCD imaging. Currently, the observing schedule of the Saturn Lodge Observatory is dedicated to two ongoing astrophysics research programs: deep sky astrophotography and a survey of low surface brightness features in galaxies. The facility is owned and operated by the Longstaff family who live near Malibu, California.

The observatory also benefits from a close association with members of the Polaris Observatory Association and members of the UCLA Astronomy faculty.
